SUFFERING FROM A DISC TEAR?
Champey Pain & Spine of New Jersey may be able to help.
A disc tear occurs when the outer layer of one of the intervertebral discs develops a tear. In some cases, this rupture allows the jelly-like inner core of that disc to leak out resulting in full disc herniation.
WHAT IS A DISC TEAR?
Disc tears are most commonly found in the neck or lower back, however, in rare cases, they can be found anywhere along the spine. While the causes and conditions vary, injury, trauma and age-related degeneration are among the top reasons patients experience a torn disc. Symptoms of a disc tear include pain in the affected area, as well as pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in extremities associated with the damaged disc.

HOW DO YOU TREAT A TORN DISC?
Upon diagnosis of a torn disc, in most cases, the tear simply requires time to heal. Other recommended methods to alleviate symptoms include medication, steroid injections, hot and cold therapy, physical therapy and exercise. When conservative treatments fail to provide relief, or if the disc tear becomes severe, surgery may be considered.
